BOYHOOD HOMES

The Pictures

In 1999, I took pictures of the three places I lived in in Newark, OH from my birth in 1940 until my move to Cincinnati in 1953. The two places I lived in there from 1953 to 1958 are also included.

Newark OH

This is the apartment house on Kibler Avenue where I lived after I was born in 1940. The picture at the left is how it appeared then and the one on the right is how it appeared recently, about 60 years later.
Sometime in the early to mid 40's we moved into a house on 10th street; I believe we rented it. I don't recall what year it was, but remember we moved so I would be closer to St. Francis grade school, where I started first grade in 1946. No school busses and no kindergarden in those days.
Later we moved even closer to school on Buckingham. Again I don't know when we moved there, but my sister was born there in 1949. I believe it was the first house my parents bought.

Cincinnati OH

In 1953 we moved to Cincinnati to an apartment on Oakwood Avenue. I have been too lazy to drive five minutes to take pictures of the two places we lived in Cincinnati.

These two pictures were taken from the Hamilton County Auditor's online database. For a little story about some of our "neighbors" on Oakwood Avenue click here.
In 1955 we bought the house at 1410 Wittekind Terrace. I recently discovered this document in the auditor's database.
