PUERTO RICO

My Time in Puerto Rico

One responsibility while I worked in the Admssion Office during my 30 years at Xavier University was recruitment activity in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. I started that work in 1977 and ended it in 1989 when I took a different position at the university. While I don't have any pictures from that time here are some of interest.

Alumni Chapter Reception in San Juan, November 1998

In November of 1998 Xavier played in a basketball tournament in San Juan and I was one of the fans along for the trip. The Puerto Rico alumni chapter held a reception for the Xavier contingent at the Condado Plaza hotel and the following picture was taken. It is a scan of a print and I apologize that it is not the best quality. The identifications were made by Winnie Perez in 2005.

Elite Eight in Atlanta , March 2004

While in Atlanta for Xavier's participation in the Regional Finals, I was killing time before the Duke game in Centennial Olympic Park. There I ran into Raul Rosado, one of my former recruits, and his sons and father-in-law. We enjoyed a pleasant conversation together.

Cruising from San Juan , January 2005

In January 2005, I went on a southern Caribbean cruise with my sister Pat and her husband Mitch. We departed from San Juan on a Saturday. We arrived in San Juan on the day before and stayed in Old San Juan at the Sheraton across from the cruise ship docks.. My good friend and former recruit, Winnie Perez, met us that evening and took us to the El Jibarito Restaurant a short distance away where we had a fine meal and pleasant conversation. It so happened that Lisa Burns was in town at the time with her husband David, on a recruitment trip. She took over from me in 1989 when I moved out of the Admission Office.

The next morning we did a little more wandering and had breakfast at Mofongo, a nice little restaurant in a shopping area right across from the lobby entrance of the hotel.
